Organization and Nature of Activities
Hawthorne Community Library Foundation (“HCLF”) was incorporated on July 15, 1995. The purpose and objects of the corporation shall be to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes as a nonprofit corporation, with its activities so conducted to fund demonstrated needs of the Louis Bay 2nd Library consistent with the exclusive purpose and objects of the corporation and for such purposes as the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
The initial project of the HCLF was the children’s addition but it was never intended to be the only project. The Foundation partnered with the Borough of Hawthorne and the citizens of Hawthorne and on November 9, 2002 we celebrated the grand opening of the beautiful and functional children’s addition. Since that time we have continued to “answer the needs” per our mission statement and have funded the renovation of the service kitchen used by the many groups who hold meetings and events in the community rooms, replaced furniture and fixtures and, most recently, funded the upgrade to the library Website which you are enjoying as you read this.
The Board of Directors meets six times annually at 7:00 PM on the last Monday of the month with the annual meeting held in mid-May. We welcome new members and encourage you to contact us for more information and the dates of upcoming events.
